On March 3, 2026, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a magnitude 4.4 tremor in the Gerash region, situated in southern Iran. The quake struck at a depth of roughly 10 kilometers (about 6.2 miles).
Gerash sits in a seismically active corridor along the Zagros fold and thrust belt, where the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide. In parallel, Israel announced it was conducting “simultaneous strikes in Tehran and Beirut,” targeting Iranian military facilities and the Iran-backed Hezbollah in its broader campaign in Lebanon. The Israeli military also claimed attacks on Iranian missile launchers and air defenses used to threaten Israeli aircraft, underscoring an intensifying campaign against attempts to arm regional missile systems.
The Israeli forces later reiterated that strikes would continue against sites connected to missile launchers, live-fire ranges, and associated ballistic missile infrastructure.

In the early hours of Tuesday, Iranian drones targeted the U.S. embassy compound in Riyadh, causing a minor fire and prompting a caution to Americans in the area. A separate Iranian drone attack had previously targeted the U.S. embassy in Kuwait.
